19 – Warm and Cool
This is an exercise a technique that Turner liked and that I’ve not really got my head round yet

18 – More Sepia
Quite like this one

17 – Back to something simpler
This time I’ve gone with sepia to do some exercises.

16 – Lake District Bridge
Did this at a few sittings and it looks like it. Some bits quite good but doesn’t really work as a whole. Light direction not consistent.

15 – Langdale Pikes
Simplified the view a bit to make it more paintable and spent a lot of time agonising about the bracken on the left which ended up looking reasonably effective but not at all like the original photo. Struggled a bit with the wall on the right too. Got the sun in the wrong place but…

14 – Indigo
Don’t like this one much though some bits of it have worked quite well. The bird was added to cover up a stray bit of paint.

13 – Exercise in sky, wet-in-wet
This is adapted from an exercise in a book and involves waiting for each layer of wet-in-wet to dry properly before applying the next layer. I’m not good at waiting.

9 – The Power of White
Here I’m trying to make effective surf by not painting where I want it to be, also some sense of waves. Quite successful at that. Use of colour on the headland not great and some of the beach over-worked

8 – Welsh landscape
This time in watercolour. Tried to make the scree on the right look realistic and failed, also aiming to make the viewer feel like they are looking down valley, some success at that.
