13 – Exercise in sky, wet-in-wet
This is adapted from an exercise in a book and involves waiting for each layer of wet-in-wet to dry properly before applying the next layer. I’m not good at waiting.

12 – Faces (3)
It’s just wrong….mouth wrong, colour too intense, eyes too small…wrong, wrong, wrong. I’ll come back to faces at a later date when I’ve learnt a bit more.

9 – The Power of White
Here I’m trying to make effective surf by not painting where I want it to be, also some sense of waves. Quite successful at that. Use of colour on the headland not great and some of the beach over-worked

8 – Welsh landscape
This time in watercolour. Tried to make the scree on the right look realistic and failed, also aiming to make the viewer feel like they are looking down valley, some success at that.

7 – Another 10 minute study
Some elements of this I like rather a lot though there are a few issues as well….. Sky is rather odd if you analyse it at all!

6 – Overworking
Spent hours on this one and ended up getting more and more dissatisfied. Some good elements but the whole thing doesn’t really work.

5 – Rapid Notebook landscape
Deliberately very simple landscape done at speed (i.e. between 5 and 10 minutes). Hoping that by getting better at working quickly I’ll get better generally.

4 – First Wet-in-Wet Splodge
Watercolours on paper that I made wet first so colours could bleed together. Surprised by how bright the paper looks in the unpainted space.
